About BibliU

BibliU is an award-winning, technology-led B2B company transforming the $65bn educational content industry. With a 90% CAGR the past 5 years, we are just getting started. We've cracked the code on Day 1 access to affordable digital course materials for students, while delivering comprehensive campus store solutions that foster human relationships, and increase our stickiness in the world of AI.

The result? Measurable impact: 10% higher student retention, 1-point GPA increases, and partnerships with 170 universities serving 600,000 students each year.

We've fundamentally changed how universities procure, distribute, and manage learning content. We partner with 4,000+ publishers, including Pearson, Oxford University Press, and Wiley to deliver content to universities, and provide rich engagement data and interactive tools like quizzes that help students actually learn.

Here's what makes our story compelling:

Founded in late 2015 as an Oxford University spin out, we've grown explosively with 90% CAGR over the last five years, including 65% in FY25, reaching $100m in annual revenue. Our Series B raised $23m led by Nesta Impact Investments (with Guinness Asset Management, Stonehage Fleming, and Oxford Sciences Enterprises). In late 2023, we acquired Texas Book Company (now 'BibliU Campus') to become the only fully vertically integrated player in the market, driving US organic growth which now represents 90% of our business.

We're hungry for more. We're actively building our M&A pipeline as we compete head-to-head against legacy bricks-and-mortar providers to improve the faculty and student experience while boosting the financial sustainability of universities.

Our culture is collaborative, high-growth, and agile. You’ll join an experienced and motivated executive team with backgrounds from Instructure (Canvas) and other successful edtech companies with exit experience. We operate as a distributed team across the UK and US, with offices in London.

Position Overview

We are looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Paralegal to join BibliU's in-house legal function as the first legal hire reporting directly to the General Counsel. This is a unique opportunity to work closely alongside a sole General Counsel, providing meaningful day-to-day support and taking on real responsibility from the outset. You will be a trusted partner to the General Counsel, helping to manage the full breadth of legal activity in a dynamic, fast-growing edtech company operating across both the UK and US —, gaining significant hands-on experience in commercial and corporate law.

What you will be doing:

  • Reviewing, negotiating, and signing off on NDAs independently (within agreed parameters), and assisting the General Counsel with the review and mark-up of general commercial contracts, including publisher agreements, customer contracts, vendor agreements, and SaaS/licensing arrangements.
  • Supporting the review and coordination of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), including extracting and summarising key legal terms, flagging issues, and maintaining trackers.
  • Taking ownership of contract management in shared drives: ensuring all contracts are fully executed (signed and dated), correctly labelled, and filed in the appropriate folder structure; maintaining trackers for renewal dates, expiry, and key obligations.
  • Carrying out legal research on UK and US legal topics and summarising findings clearly for the General Counsel and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting data protection compliance activities, including maintaining records of processing activities, assisting with data subject requests, and keeping internal policies up to date.
  • Assisting with corporate administration tasks including maintaining statutory records, preparing board resolutions, and supporting Companies House filings.
  • Providing general administrative support to the General Counsel, including diary management for legal matters, coordinating with external counsel, and managing legal invoices.
  • Helping to develop and maintain legal templates, precedents, and internal guidance documents for use across the business.
  • Supporting due diligence processes in connection with commercial transactions or corporate activity.
  • Building relationships with internal stakeholders and acting as a helpful first point of contact for routine legal queries.

What we are looking for

Must have:

  • A law degree (LLB or equivalent) or a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), or demonstrable paralegal experience of at least 2 years in a commercial legal environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review and summarise legal documents accurately.
  • Proven experience reviewing and negotiating NDAs and general commercial contracts, with the confidence to manage these independently under attorney supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate legal risk clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience managing contracts in a shared drive environment, including ensuring documents are correctly executed, labelled, and filed.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with a willingness to take ownership and get things done in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in standard office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace) and an aptitude for picking up new systems quickly.

Good to have:

  • Experience in or exposure to the edtech, publishing, higher education, or SaaS sector.
  • Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment where you have had to be resourceful and work with limited legal resource.
  • Familiarity with contract management software or CLM tools.
  • Some exposure to US legal matters or cross-border contracting (UK/US dual-jurisdiction experience particularly valued).
  • Knowledge of UK GDPR and data protection compliance processes, including maintaining ROPAs and handling DSARs.
  • Experience supporting RFP processes or working with procurement teams.
  • A paralegal qualification or membership of a recognised paralegal body (e.g. CILEX, NALP, IoP).
  • Experience building or improving contract filing systems and naming conventions in shared drives or platforms.
  • Ability to draft and maintain standard legal templates and playbooks for routine contract types.

Benefits

Our benefits are all aimed at supporting a healthy work-life balance and cultivating a company culture where you can bring your whole, human self to work.
