Position Overview
The People Operations Generalist will serve as the primary People Operations partner for our US workforce while progressively developing capability to support elements of UK People Operations. This role anchors our HR compliance, payroll, benefits, employee relations, and lifecycle management, ensuring a streamlined and service-led experience for all employees.
You will operate as the first line of support for employee relations concerns—escalating to senior HR leadership when matters become complex, high-risk. This role is ideal for a practitioner who thrives in a high-accountability, fast-scaling environment and who embraces both operational rigour and empathetic employee advocacy.
What you will be doing:
US Payroll & Benefits Ownership
- Manage end-to-end bi-monthly payroll for all US divisions with full accountability for accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Validate timesheets, audit deductions, reconcile taxes, and ensure all payroll reporting is compliant with federal and state regulations.
- Oversee benefits lifecycle including enrollment, renewals, corrections, and employee support across medical, dental, vision, life, and supplemental plans.
Employee Lifecycle
- Drive all onboarding and offboarding processes for US new hires and leavers, ensuring consistent documentation, system accuracy, and employee experience.
- Support UK lifecycle processes as trained (contracts, onboarding workflows, changes to terms, offboarding coordination), following local legislative frameworks.
- Prepare and process employment changes (job changes, compensation updates, status changes) with a high degree of diligence and data integrity.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready personnel records across BambooHR and associated systems.
Employee Relations (ER)
- Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day employee relations queries, applying consistent judgement and empathetic problem-solving.
- Provide early-stage support on attendance, performance, conduct, and policy questions—ensuring issues are handled promptly and documented appropriately.
- Escalate cases to the People Manager when there are indicators of legal exposure, formal action requirements, or high business risk.
- Ensure ER practices align with US federal/state standards—and, over time, understand UK ACAS-aligned best practices to support the broader team.
Recruitment & Talent Coordination
- Provide administrative support across all hiring activities, including job postings, ATS management, and candidate communication.
- Coordinate interview scheduling and logistics to ensure a smooth candidate experience.
- Partner with the People Manager, who leads sourcing and recruitment strategy, to ensure operational accuracy and consistency.
People Operations Administration
- Manage shared People Operations inboxes, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality responses to employee queries.
- Maintain and track compliance documentation including:
-
- I-9 verification and audits;
-
- W-4 documentation;
-
- W-2 accuracy support;
- State onboarding notices and labour law postings.
- Own the setup and maintenance of state tax accounts as the organisation expands.
- Produce recurring and ad-hoc reports across payroll, benefits, headcount, and compliance metrics.
What You Bring
- Hands-on experience with BambooHR (payroll, benefits, lifecycle workflows, reporting).
- 3–5 years of HR/People Operations experience with strong grounding in US employment law, payroll, and benefits.
- Demonstrated experience running bi-monthly US payroll with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in administering US benefits programs and navigating employee queries.
- Familiarity with recruitment coordination and lifecycle management across the employee journey.
- Strong judgement in handling employee relations cases; knows when to escalate and when to resolve independently.
- High integrity, operational discipline, and the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
- A people-first mindset supported by data literacy and structured problem-solving.
Good to have:
- Prior experience in a fast-growth or multi-state organization.
