Position Title: Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Reports to: Store Manager

Location: Eastern New Mexico University - 1500 South Avenue K, Portales, New Mexico, 88130

Contract type: Full-Time, Permanent
Working hours: 35 - 40 hours per week (weekend availability is occasionally required for scheduled events and inventory counts)
Rate of Pay: $13.00 per hour

Position Overview

This role is responsible for executing all essential functions related to the receipt, pricing, and shelving of incoming merchandise, ensuring accuracy in verifying packing lists and maintaining inventory integrity. The position also involves the preparation, packing, and shipment of returned goods in accordance with company procedures. In addition, the role provides high-quality customer service, supporting a positive and efficient retail experience for all patrons

What you will be doing:

  • Accept incoming merchandise and accurately complete receiving records to ensure all items are properly documented and tracked
  • Assist in pricing products according to invoice details, applying appropriate discounts, and stocking shelves in a timely and organized manner
  • Participate in scheduled physical inventory counts and assist in maintaining accurate stock records
  • Deliver friendly, knowledgeable service to customers both in-store and over the phone, addressing inquiries and assisting with purchases
  • Process transactions accurately using the cash register in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Help remove outdated price tags, repackage items, and support the sorting and shelving of over-the-counter book purchases
  • Keep the stockroom clean, safe, and well-organized to support efficient inventory access and replenishment
  • Check packing lists against shipments for accuracy, noting any damages or discrepancies, and match invoices to merchandise received

What we are looking for:

  • 0–6 months experience in shipping/receiving or warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to learn inventory or POS systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Capable of lifting and moving merchandise up to 70 lbs safely and consistently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong basic math and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum 6 months of retail customer service and/or cashier experience.
